Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Player Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and had been in communication with the NFL.
The organization did not mention Rice by name in their statement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete directly, shared a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.
Player's Prior Legal Issues
Rice missed the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
On the field, Rice concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first time in a ten-year span.
