Patrick Bamford Joins Sheffield United After Leading Derogatory Chants About Coach Chris Wilder

The striker has signed with the Championship side only half a year after instigating derogatory songs targeting their manager, Chris Wilder.

The 32-year-old forward, without a club after departing from Leeds United, has signed a agreement with the second-tier club in difficulty through the winter. His seven-year time at Elland Road finished by mutual consent this past summer.

One of the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player involved leading insulting songs about Wilder during the club’s promotion party this spring. Now, the former England international is set to play for Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to lift the team he loves away from the drop zone.

Previous Conflict Between the Striker & Wilder

The pair had previous conflict prior to Leeds earned promotion to the top flight last season and United were defeated in the playoff final by Sunderland. The manager called the forward as “a muppet” when the situation was different in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won direct promotion while Leeds fell short in the playoffs.

Making Amends and Moving Forward

Everything seems has been resolved with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of a boost up front while Bamford aiming to rejuvenate his career.

The Wilder chant went viral in April. A repentant Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.

Chris Wilder stated back then: “Spoke with Patrick recently and I’ve no problem at all with that. I'm uncertain about the language from a fellow pro! However I appreciated and respected him calling me.

“We had a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel Farke too and we had a longer discussion together and he's a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we used to dish it out and take it and that is part and parcel of the game across all levels, even on Sunday league. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I told him that to Pat.”

Recent Playing Challenges

Bamford made 18 appearances for Leeds last season but the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC and Boro striker has struggled with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
