The Reform UK leader Accuses Teachers of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Race Issues
Nigel Farage has asserted that teachers would go on strike within weeks a success at the polls for his party, accusing them of “poisoning our kids” by telling students that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
At a gathering for a Michigan-based religious institution, Farage outlined his viewpoint on the UK education system, stating that the “radical left-wing” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I’m anticipating a walkout by educators soon after securing a victory,” he remarked during a Q&A session.
“They are corrupting young minds. They instruct children to feel guilt about their nation. They are telling an eight-year-old black child that he is oppressed and a white child of the same age that he is a perpetrator. They are dividing us, instead of fostering unity. They promote this harmful mindset.”
Reacting to these assertions, the head of a major education union dismissed the idea that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “absurd”. He pointed out that any strikes must relate to educators’ working conditions, and questioned whether Reform would attack these immediately upon entering government.
“Farage has built his political career on coded rhetoric and now, similar to other figures, he is lining up teachers and their unions for a fight,” Kebede stated.
“This is highly reckless. I don’t – and nor does my union – push critical race theory as he claims … Should he become prime minister he would undermine state services, particularly schooling … and the outcome would be catastrophic for education and children.”
The party, which tops surveys by a significant margin, has provided limited specifics on a proposed education policy and does not appear to have appointed an education spokesperson.
Nonetheless, his comments indicated the group would reform the educational framework. He said: “We have got a massive job with schooling – truly monumental. Moreover, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it requires years, a long-term effort to reform.”
He stated that gen Z was more open to critical thinking, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.
Honoring a conservative activist, he commented: “My goal for schooling is to foster independent thought – to instruct people that there are two points of view and you make up your own mind rather than what’s happening now where one is virtuous and one is evil. It’s a massive job in both Britain and America.”
Reform has previously clashed with a major educators’ organization, after the union leader labeled them “extremist and prejudiced” and dismissed Farage as “a cheap imitation”.
The politician has charged Kebede of being “an avowed radical” … someone who is absolutely determined that young minds be corrupted at school, their minds should be poisoned about everything to do with this country” and maintained that the union is trying to indoctrinate teenagers against Reform.
Roughly a million individuals are employed in education in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The major education union has about 450,000 members.
Countrywide walkouts over teacher pay and conditions in recent years led to significant interruptions in educational institutions and extensive missed instruction for children.
At the US event, the Reform leader also pledged to help spread the online educational material of the institution in the UK. He stated organizations like it were “key to resistance”, adding that: “I am serious. I’ll assist attract vast numbers of youth to your online courses. I pledge this now and I will follow through.”
The institution, a religious educational establishment, offers free courses. Its website states: “Comprehensive learning is necessary for personal happiness and to perpetuate the blessings of civil and religious liberty. It offers these beautiful courses for no charge to every interested learner.”
